Our Philosophy

Te Akau ki Papamoa School is a co-educational full primary school. We have a roll of around 420 learners and are a decile 4 school, drawing students from a wide range of backgrounds. Our school is just eight years old and we are proud of our modern environment and the part our community has been able to play in shaping the evolving culture of our school. Te Akau ki Papamoa School is organised into four (soon to become five) “pods” of classrooms. Our pods are arranged to ensure that our youngest and more senior learners are able to work together, form meaningful relationships and learn from and with each other. Each pod is headed by a pod leader, all of whom are members of the school lead team.

Surfing the Waves
We see ourselves as a community of learners at our school. We are all committed to the philosophy of life-long learning and have much to learn from each other. Our classrooms aspire towards:

We are always seeking to grow our knowledge in the use of thinking skills, multiple intelligences and the integration and updating of ICT skills for all of us.

At Te Akau ki Papamoa School we have an unwavering commitment to building strong skills in literacy and numeracy. Our school has been part of the National Numeracy Project since its inception and literacy learning is at the heart of all our classroom programmes.

As a team of learners, our staff is committed to the concept of life-long learning and we have a strong professional development programme to support this commitment. We have recently implemented the AsTTle (Assessment Tools for Teaching and Learning) programme. It is proving valuable in assessing our learners against national standards, providing new learning pathways and informing our programmes.

At Te Akau ki Papamoa School, we take an holistic, multiple-intelligences view of learning. Learners are encouraged to develop their talents and strengths in all areas of the curriculum. Our gifted and talented learners also have the opportunity to participate in extension programmes with students from other schools along the coastal strip in the “Beach Brilliance” initiative.
