Most boys are doing well at Te Akau ki Papamoa School. Whilst at the same time, a significant number of New Zealand boys are disengaged or not achieving to their potential. Success for boys is about taking steps to ensure all boys are engaged and achieving in their learning.
Te Akau ki Papamoa School is focused on lifting the engagement and achievement of all young people. To this end, we have identified successful strategies and are sharing good practice about engaging boys in learning.
The Boys' Class has been created to enhance opportunities for all boys to succeed. To do so we are building on what we're already doing to meet this goal.

Help is Here

The Boys' Class is designed to improve student outcomes through:
• looking at the teaching-learning relationships with boys in our classrooms
• creating a supportive learning environment for boys
• providing a range of approaches and tools to address the diverse learning needs of boys so they achieve to their full potential.

Success Factors

Raising the success of boys at Te Akau ki Papamoa School began with a look at success factors – these are the things that have a significant effect on the success of our boys.
Looking at success factors helped us acknowledge what we were already doing well to provide opportunities for boys to engage in their learning and achieve to their potential. It also helped us identify gaps to address.
Engaging with our community about the most appropriate success factors to consider helped us to develop a shared commitment to lifting the engagement and achievement of boys at Te Akau ki Papamoa School.
